Hebrews 12:14 - "Work at living in peace with everyone, and work at living a holy life, for those who are not holy will not see the Lord." (New Living Translation)

There are few things more terrifying that standing alone. Even if it is for the right thing. Even though you know beyond the shadow of a doubt that the people around you are wrong. Even when the temptation is too sweet to ignore. It takes a true warrior to stand alone for what is right, strong and convicted.

In the Netflix hit, Bright,Officers Daryl Ward and Nick Jakoby are two such warriors. In a world where humans lives along side elves, orcs, and fairies, the LAPD seizes extra responsibilities to keep the city safe. The most difficult among those duties are to commandeer dangerous, magical artifacts.

Ward and Jakoby team up with a fugitive elf to protect a magic ward from greedy cops, violent gang members, and an evil elven cult. It becomes an impossible mission in which they would be lucky to survive. They would certainly be lucky to keep their jobs and freedom. The odds are stacked against them at every turn. Yet, they continue to do the right thing. They protect the wand for the good of the people.

1 Corinthians 15:58 - "So, my dear brothers and sisters, be strong and immovable. Always work enthusiastically for the Lord, for you know that nothing you do for the Lord is ever useless." (NLT)

"Everyone's just trying to get along and have a good life... All of the races are different. Just because their different doesn't mean anyone is better or worse than anybody." (Daryl Ward)

In spite of his stressful and struggling life, Ward is a man who believes in equality. He is kind to everybody despite their race or status. His job is to serve and protect. His partner is the first orc officer in LA, which puts Ward into an unusual light.

He is also financially struggling. He is subject to scrutiny. He is under an incredible amount of pressure. One wrong move, and he could lose his job. That job is the one thing standing between him and bankruptcy. It is nearly impossible to step on any toes.

John 13:34 - "So now I am giving you a new commandment: Love each other. Just as I have loved you, you should love each other." (NLT)

Ward is a man who loves others above himself. He saves the city and possibly the world, because of his choice to do the right thing. Even though everyone he encounters opposes him. With only an young elf and an orc as back up. He stands up for the right thing. He loves.

Let us all follow this powerful example and stand up for the right things.
