JUPITER ASCENDING (2015) Movie Review

Jupiter Jones is a poor house cleaner with questionable citizenship status. Her father is murdered before she is born, and her mother becomes a harsh workaholic. Despite her humble lifestyle, Jupiter can’t help but sense that her destiny involves something greater. She is correct.

Her destiny involves something far greater than she could imagine. The fate of every living, breathing soul on Earth rests in her hands. Due a one in a million coincidence, she inherits the entire planet. During a very well paced series of events, Jupiter learns a great deal about the purpose of Earth and its inhabitants.

She then embarks on an incredible journey through space to save the planet from its gruesome fate from the family of evil beings who would seek to “harvest” the humans. They use human DNA to keep themselves immortal, and these beings would do anything to harvest the millions of lives on Earth to stay that way.

However, no amount of bribes or threats will sway Jupiter Jones. Her tragic and humble background teaches her that all lives are sacred. She does everything in her power to save the world, even at the risk of her family. For we are more than a rich boy’s anti-aging cream. We are more than, as Jupiter’s uncle not-so-gently points out, a chicken. Each and every one of us is a beloved child of God.

Genesis 1:27: “So, God created human beings in his own image. In the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.” (NLT)

I absolutely adore this film. It is refreshingly original, and it is filled with a balanced amount of sorrow, humor, romance, and action. Most importantly, it bares an incredible message about love, life, and humility.
