SANCTUM (2011) Movie Review

A group of explorers venture to explore the last unexplored place on Earth, a sanctum running deep into the Earth’s surface. It’s a dangerous mission where if one thing goes wrong, they may never return to the surface. They get trapped in the cave and must race against time to find a way out before they drown in the falling water.
In these situations like these, one would ask the popular questions. Where is God in times of trial? Why would God allow this? The truth of the matter is that God does not ensure safety of our physical bodies. Therefore, we should not expect his protection in dangerous time.
2 Timothy 1:12 - “That is why I am suffering here in prison. But I am not ashamed of it, for I know the one in whom I trust, and I am sure that he is able to guard what I have entrusted to him until the day of his return.” (NLT)
It serves as a cruel reminder of what’s the most important thing in this world, which is the salvation of the world. Are the followers of Christ really fulfilling the Great Commission as best they can? Or do they let other priorities distract them?
Even though the explorer’s face the chance of death in the cave, they hold the strength and will to escape. They do not give up trying. Those who succeed do so by their own hands. Success is the result of hard work, not luck or prayer, which is why the survivors emerge wiser and stronger in the end.
