SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING (2017) Movie Review

Psalm 82:3-4 says “Give justice to the poor and the orphan; uphold the rights of the oppressed and the destitute. Rescue the poor and helpless; deliver them from the grasp of evil people.“ (NLT)

Spider-Man Homecoming is a refreshing comedy in the midst of an otherwise dark and serious Marvel franchise.

Black Panther is the only film that remains until The Infinity War, which is just around the corner. With the intense darkness that looms over the fate of the world, Spider-Man would be a crucial addition to the team of heroes standing to defend it. First, he must have a full understanding of what it means to be a hero.

Tony Stark gives him the opportunity to become an Avenger by establishing a training program and constructing a brand new, technologically advanced Spider-Man suit. Tony Stark has great plans in store for Peter. First, Peter must prove that he is worthy of the opportunity. Such things take time.

However, Peter is young, impatient, and reckless. His ambitious desire for fame and fortune causes him to lose sight of his original purpose. A true hero is selfless, patient, and honest. A true hero works well with his team and with law enforcement. A true hero doesn't prioritize one case above another. Help is help. No matter what. No matter who.

Ambition and impatience causes him to make mistakes. He stops making reports to his handler. He makes his own investigations without Stark's clearance. He doesn't report any of his finding to the authorities. He cheats his way into full access of his suit's features. In essence he loses sight of his mission as a hero. Ambition blinds him.

He cannot see the big picture while in the midst of it. Such is life.

Often, in life, we feel impatient about God's plan. After years of complacency we lose hope that our lives will get better. We wonder if we'll accomplish anything that will make the world a better place. We fear a mundane life.

We forget to trust God's great plan just as Peter forgets to trust Stark's plan. As a result, Peter nearly loses everything. His job and his suit are taken from him. Most importantly, he loses Stark's trust.

There is only one way for him to fulfill his purpose: HEROISM. True heroism. He must regain his understanding of what it means to be a hero. Only then could he become an Avenger.
