Romans 8:28 says, "And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them." -NLT

Halloween is around the corner. What better way to celebrate than with a film that honors this time of the year? The Book of Life is a colorful and vibrant celebration of Mexican culture. It is also beautiful story about the different fates of two best friends, Manolo and Joaquin, and their sweetheart, Maria.

These three friends begin their adventure as children. Higher powers, La Muerte and Xibalba, seal the fate of the afterlife with a bet over this potential romance. Who will marry Maria?

As they grow, they chase their passions. They learn their trades. They travel. They work hard to secure their futures. They simply live their lives. Two boys become two strong men, and a girl becomes a beautiful lady. Thus, the fight over her hand begins.

Maria is a kind, compassionate person with a bleeding heart for animals. She prefers a man who shares that compassion. She prefers a selfless man who stays true to his passions. She prefers a man who respects her as an equal.

Colossians 3:12 says, "Since God chose you to be the holy people he loves, you must clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience." -NLT

Maria choses her man, because of what she sees (and hears). She follows her heart. She weighs her options. She knows what is right. She marries her husband without know the gravity behind her decision.

Such a story is a brilliant reflection of everyone's life choices. We will never know the impact that our choices have on the world. The only thing we can hope to do is live well. Show compassion. Give love. Follow your passion. Share your faith.

Leave the rest to God.
