BABY DRIVER (2017) Movie Review

Don't underestimate BABY.

Romans 12:10 - "Love each other with genuine affection, and take delight in honoring each other."

Baby Driver is a unique and exciting mix of musical, action, and romance where a young getaway driver struggles to escape his criminal lifestyle. All he wants is the freedom to pursue a bright future, to find love, and to make beautiful music. However, he is trapped, enslaved by debt to a terrible man and forced to escort dangerous people into safety.

Though he does his job well, he doesn't belong in this world. Not only is it dangerous and immoral, he also receives no respect for his contributions. The criminals around him judge him for his youth, his hearing impairment, and his enthusiasm for music.

Philippians 2:3 - "Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves."

He is a bright presence in a very dark world. People either underestimate him or they feel threatened by him. His skills as a driver speak for themselves. Yet, the only man who appreciates his contribution is Doc, the man who enslaves him. The man who refuses to let him go.

That is his biggest mistake. He may appreciate Baby's skills, but he underestimates Baby's resolve escape. Others underestimate his abilities and mental capacity. He doesn't deserve this treatment. He is incredibly gifted. His skills should speak for themselves. One mistake leads him down a path from which he nearly doesn't return. He nearly gets his loved ones and himself killed.

Baby is also intelligent, selfless, loyal, and artistic. He is a good man caught in an impossible situation. Most importantly, he is responsible. In his resolve to escape he turns himself into the authorities. He repents and serves his time. By the time he emerges into society, he remains in the hearts of those who love and appreciate him. He knows who family is. He knows his friends. He knows who is worthy of his time and attention.

Proverbs 28:13 - "People who conceal their sins will not prosper, but if they confess and turn from them, they will receive mercy."

We all need to assess our relationships.

Do the people in your life value you in spite of your faults?
Do they appreciate your skills and contributions?
Do they see beauty in your artistic passions?

OR

Do you live every day of your life counting they days until your escape from a toxic situation?

Let us remain connected with people who uplift us. Who value us. Who are loving and loyal.
