How important is life experience?

Psalm 139:14 - "Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marvelous—how well I know it." (NLT)

At what point is humanity lost to machinery?
Where in the body does humanity lie?
Where is the soul?
How many cyber enhancements are too many?
At what point is humanity lost?

These are few of the many questions explored in the Sci-Fi film, Ghost in the Shell. Set in a future where people can "upgrade" with cyber enhancements as easily as one could buy a shirt, a young woman named Major struggles with her own sense of identity. She is the first of her kind, a complete robotic body. The only human organ remaining is her brain.

Who better to answer such questions than a person completely stripped of her human body?

Where is her humanity?

Proverbs 3:5-6 - "Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take." (NLT)

With nothing except her brain remaining, then the answer must lie there, deep within her mind. In her memories. In her experiences. Until she learns the truth about her former self, she is doomed to remain as a soldier. She is doomed to remain unfulfilled. She will never know for what she is fighting.

It is not until she learns the truth about her past does she learn the truth about her present. Thus, she takes control of her future. She chooses her friends. She chooses her enemies. She chooses a cause for which to fight. She finds her humanity.

We have little control over what befalls us, but we can still make choices. We can CHOOSE how we react to our conditions and situation. We can choose in what to believe. We can choose salvation through Jesus Christ.

John 10:10 - "The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life." (NLT)

"There's no one who really understands the risk to individuality, to identity, messing with the human soul."
