Cara Buckley • Aug 03, 2019

James 4:14 - "How do you know what your life will be like tomorrow? Your life is like the morning fog—it’s here a little while, then it’s gone." (NLT)

Occurrence at Mills Creek is thrilling short filled with mystery and complexity, meant to introduce the full-length feature that premieres in 2020. On its surface, it tells the story of an unfortunate girl, Clara, who suffers tremendous loss. Already abandoned by her father, illness claims her mother leaving her alone to care for her younger sister, Cassandra. In a moment of jealous anger, she allows a horrific accident kills her sister...

Or was it an accident?

At the time of Cassandra's death, she shows signs of independence. The two girls begin journeys down separate paths. Clara continues to let bitterness and anger drive her while Cassandra desires the opportunity to move on. She wants the normal life of a teen, happiness, fun, and boys. However, Clara resists her sister's efforts. She can't handle the idea of Cassandra growing up. So, death preserves her in an eternal state of innocence and beauty.

She finds herself utterly alone. Guilt plagues her. Visions of the dead appear to her at every turn. They call her to join them. It forces her to face the mortality of herself and her sister.

Will she succumb to the call? Or will she find a way to free herself from the darkness? Can she forgive her father for leaving his family to suffer? Was the accident a cry for help or a cry for attention? Who can say what goes through her mind in any given moment?

1 John 1:9 - "But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness." (NLT)

Only the forgive offered by God may set her free. She must confess and accept forgiveness. Salvation will be hers through the blood of Jesus. Otherwise, guilt will continue to fester in her mind.

This short will leave viewers with many questions, particularly the question: What is real? What occurs in Clara's dark, confused mind? These are questions that only the feature can answer.
