STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI (2017) New Trailer

Will the darkness triumph?

Star Wars: The Last Jedi finally dropped tonight, and it was well worth the wait. The sheer intensity makes my heart race. The galaxy is at war, and the stakes are higher than ever.

Two enemies who are equal in power endure intense training before they face off again.

Here is what the Official Trailer teaches us:

  • An undeniable darkness shrouds the galaxy.

  • The First Order launches a merciless campaign against the Resistance.

  • Rey begins her journey of self-discovery with the very hesitant Luke Skywalker.

  • Kylo Ren continues to struggle with his loyalty to Supreme Leader Snoke.

One thing is clear. The divide between the light and dark side is not as clear cut as it would seem. Luke appears to be dancing on that line. Is he still a light side Jedi, or will he succumb to the darkness. He is not the same celebrating Jedi that closes the Return of the Jedi. He is hesitant. He is afraid. He is angry. He is distant.

In spite of it all, I remain confident that he is doing more on that island than hiding. He could hide on any planet in the galaxy, but he chose the birth place of the Jedi order. He is studying. He is preparing. He is growing stronger. Most recently, he is preparing his Padawan to face their enemies. His role in the fate of the galaxy is far from over.

In light of the Official Trailer, I have no doubt that The Last Jedi is bound to be the greatest Star Wars episode yet.
