STAR WARS: THE RISE OF SKYWALKER (2019) Reaction (SPOILER WARNING)

Cara Buckley • Dec 21, 2019

A 42 year saga comes to a remarkable conclusion with " Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker".

  • The Resistance continues in their desperate campaign to unite the galaxy against the tyranny seeking to destroy it.
  • The First Order continues in its campaign to seize control of every corner of the galaxy.
  • The galaxy simply struggles to survive.
  • Leia continues in her attempt to redeem her son.
  • Kylo Ren continues in his hunt for Rey.
  • Rey continues in her quest for identity.

Most of all, Rey continues in her struggle to fight temptation. Her past haunts her. Kylo Ren appeals to her. Palatine threatens her. Those who truly understand her fade away. Luke is dead, Leia is fading away, and the Jedi's long-since-passed have grown silent. Thus giving the dark influences room to grow inside her head. The darkness grows, threatening to consume the galaxy once more, and it seems that Rey is the one person on whom everyone rests their hope. Regardless of her company, she feels more alone than ever.

The Force has a different destiny in store for the young Jedi. In order for Rey to become a fully realized Jedi, she must overcome her fear. Otherwise, the darkness would consume her.

SPOILERS AHEAD

This is the example of Rey's journey in this final chapter. Fear plagues her, because of her growing power and no one in whom to confide except her enemy, Kylo Ren. Every passing interaction between the two enemies reveals another disturbing piece to the puzzle of her mysterious past. Until she finally learns the entire truth of her origins. Thus, she learns the origins of her uncontrolable power. Her fear quickly turns into inconsolible rage, and she loses control on the wreckage of the death star during her duel with Kylo Ren. In her rage, she nearly kills Ben Solo, the one person in the galaxy who loves and understands her most.

One thing brings her back to the light. In fact, it brings them both back. Love. The purest form of love. Sacrificial love. Princess Leia lays down her life once and for all. In doing so, she restores balance and saves the galaxy.

Why does her physical form remain in tact until the conclusion?

Because she waits to unite with her son. It is the deepest desire of her heart to bring her son home. If not in this life, then in the next. Together they ascend.

Her sacrifice is not only the catalyst for Ben's redemption, but it also set an example. Ben in turn gives his life for the woman he loves most. He feels a love so deep that he cannot bear the thought of living without her. His pure love allows him to become one with the Force. In death, his conflict and torment finds relief. As all Skywalkers eventually find relief in death.

Ben Solo is not gone. His spirit lives within Rey. Dark and light unites in one body. Two become one. This is balance. Rey becomes complete uniting with Ben. Every member of the Skywalker family are laid to rest. They finally find peace after three generations of torment. As the Skywalkers are freed, so is the galaxy. Rey survives, because her destiny is to begin a new order. Armed with good friends, Solo's ship, and Skywalker's name, she will no doubt keep the legacy alive for as long as she lives.

When the day comes for her to pass away, she will be welcome into the family she's always wanted. For she is loved by Luke, Han, Leia and Ben. The saga ends, but the legacy lives forever.
