THE OLDEST PEOPLE IN THE WORLD STILL HAVE LESSONS TO LEARN

Cara Buckley • Aug 11, 2020

James 1:5 - "If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking."

It's the hardest thing for the human eye to see. Not even the oldest people in the world can see it.

How can we measure our impact on the world?

How do we know whether or not we make a difference?

Is your divine purpose being accomplished?

These are the question that plague the members of "The Old Guard". Plagued with extended life, these gifted beings are granted extended life, so their deeds can shape civilization as we know it. Humanity is better off because of their tireless efforts. However, they don't see the effect they have.

They spend centuries watching the world continue to erode, and it makes them feel like their purpose is pointless. They feel helpless in their immortality and give up their efforts unaware their biggest fight is just around the bend.

Thus, a new immortal is born to take their place, Nile. Destined to replace Andy as the group leader, she reminds the guard that there is still goodness in the world. The youngest member of the guard, God (aka their higher power) chooses her because of her goodness and passion. This proves there are still people worth fighting for in the modern world. A modern warrior is good enough to join their ranks. She reignites their motivation to fight.

Ephesians 5:15-17 - "So be careful how you live. Don’t live like fools, but like those who are wise. Make the most of every opportunity in these evil days. Don’t act thoughtlessly, but understand what the Lord wants you to do."

Meanwhile, an observant man named Copley embarks on a campaign to construct a timeline of their deeds. He researches their work throughout the centuries. Their impact on the world becomes undeniable. They impact the world through the people they save, not the violence they exact.

If only there were more people like Copley in the world. The people who encourage the good, instead of nitpicking the bad. Such negativity takes its toll on the human will. Even immortal, superior warriors are not immune to that psychological warfare. It is enough to drive a person mad. Let us all focus on the people who lift us up.

Remind the people around you of the good they do. The world needs good. As much as it can get. Consider, my friends, who are you? Do you encourage and inspire? Or do you make others feel worthless as a benefit to yourself?
