THE ROOMMATE (2011) Movie Review

One of the most valuable lessons my mother taught me growing up was one about friends and enemies.

She always said, “Your best friend could be your worst enemy, and your worst enemy could be your best friend.”

How true that can be. I personally experienced it both ways. We’re constantly building and burning bridges with each other.

Psalm 41:9 - “Even my best friend, the I trusted completely, the one who shared my food, has turned against me." (NLT)

Imagine yourself in Sarah’s shoes. It’s your first day of college, you’re on your own for the first time, and you hardly know a soul in your building. In walks your roommate. She’s sweet, generous, and thinks just like you. Then, you start to notice her getting a little too clingy. She gets jealous and threatened by your other friends, and things start to happen to them. What do you do?

Bottom line: you can’t trust people.

They will turn on you in a heartbeat. Even your closest friend who you’ve shared a lifetime of experiences with will eventually throw you under the bus for a candy bar.

As the Bible says, the hearts of men are evil and can never be trusted.

It’s a scary thought, but it’s true.

Who can we trust?

Who will never leave you nor forsake you?

Who will be you ultimate friend and savior?

God.

He loves you so much that He sacrificed His son in order to grant you undeserved grace. Despite everything that happens to you in life, He will be at your side guiding you through.

Proverbs 3:5-6 - “Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.” (NLT)
