TRUTH OR DARE (2018) Movie Review

How far would you to go keep a secret?

Proverbs 12:22 - "The Lord detests lying lips, but he delights in those who tell the truth." (NLT)

Lies are very easy to tell. They are convenient when avoiding consequences. They are beneficial during a emotion blackmail campaigns for money or sympathy. They can even give people a false sense of security or help boost self-esteem. As long as the liar doesn't get caught.

What would happen, then, if lying no longer becomes an option? What if the only alternative to lying was death? Would you die for your secrets? What terrible deeds would you commit? How many lives would you ruin?

Truth or Dare is a deep exploration of this terrifying concept. An innocent game of truth or dare becomes the target of a vengeful demon that controls the players through questions or commands. Or it kills the players when they refuse to comply. The deeper they go, the more sadistic the request and the harder it becomes to escape.

2 Timothy 2:15 - "Work hard so you can present yourself to God and receive his approval. Be a good worker, one who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly explains the word of truth." (NLT)

The demon drives a group of friends apart by forcing them to reveal secrets and daring them to kill one another. Relationships are broken. People are hurt. Lives are lost. Still many hang onto their secrets. They continue to lie to themselves and others.

Yet, the demon, servant of Satan, the "Father of Lies", can sense every lie and every secret. It does continues its campaign of terror until everyone is broken or dead. It wishes to spread and infect the entire world.

They fall so far down the rabbit hole, they almost never climb out. All appears hopeless. Every attempt to trick, control or contain the demon backfires. The demon could not be beaten; so, they give it what it wants, too much of what it wants.

John 8:32 - "And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” (NLT)

Only with a full confession of the truth can this hurting pair survive. A worldwide confession posted on YouTube. By challenging every viewer to join the game, the demons' attention would stretch thin.

It would take too much time for their next turn. Each new player would take a small challenge, but the game would not consume their lives. The world shares the burden of this game. Therefore, more people survive.

In John 14:6, Jesus says, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me.” (NLT)

The world is indeed plagued by demons, plagued by sin, and plagued with lies. Unlike this story, we are not alone. We don't need to carry the burden alone. Satan may be the father of lies, but Jesus Christ is the son of God. He saved the world from sin by taking every burden (past, present, and future) onto himself. Because of his sacrifice, we are free. We are saved. No demon may control us.

All you need to do is believe.

John 3:16 - "For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.” (NLT)
