A journey to understanding and refinement.

Proverbs 3:5-6 - "Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take." (NLT)

Annihilation is an incredibly unique Sci-Fi story about a biological alien invasion of Earth.

A meteorite hits the Earth causing a slow spread of chronic mutation. Any form of exposure causes an infection of every life forms including plants, animals, and people. It is a threat that no one understands and that the military is not prepared to handle. Many soldiers enter this "Shimmer", the infected area. Few survive.

His name is Kane, husband of biologist and veteran Lena. After her husband's unexplained return and mysterious ailment plague his body, she follows suit, entering the "Shimmer" with a team of scientists in an effort to understand the invasion. Only through a proper understanding is she able to fight it. The discoveries she makes inside the infected area are confusing, often beautiful, and very lethal.

1 John 1:8-10 - "If we claim we have no sin, we are only fooling ourselves and not living in the truth." (NLT)

The "Shimmer" is much like sin: alluring and destructive. Each member of the team faces an inner demon while inside of it. The shimmer feeds off of their haunting secrets causing them to become infected. The infection drives some insane. Others submit themselves to it. Either way, they die. For sin leads to death.

Lena, on the other hand, survives. Because of her understanding and acceptance of the aliens, Lena faces it at its core and is able to defeat it. She faces her sin with the spirit of atonement. Her love for Kane and her determination to save her struggling marriage drives her to survive. Love overpowers sin.

Like her husband, she survives the infection and emerges a refined version of herself. They learn to accept each other as they are. They become closer than ever, bonded by the change and experience. They are refined.

Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord.

Just as Kane and Lena refine themselves in the face of destruction, Christ can refine us all. All sins can be forgiven. We can live free from the infection of sin. Through Him, we can be refined. We can live forever. Let Christ's salvation refine you.
