A WISH FOR GIANTS (2018) Movie Review

Nothing worth pursuing comes easy.

John 20:29 "...Blessed are those who believe without seeing me.”

Based on the novel by Aaron Dunbar, A Wish for Giants is a story about powerful belief. It follows three different people's three different beliefs in the same thing, Bigfoot. Roxie, an innocent girl armed with unyielding belief, makes a wish to meet Bigfoot before the tumor in her brain takes her from this world. It is an impossible mission for Sophie who is assigned to grant this wish.

Moved by this tragedy, she is willing to accomplish the impossible, even if she struggles to believe in Bigfoot herself and in spite of the doubt everyone impacts upon her. Sophie is a woman who enjoys a challenge and refuses to take the easy way out. She hesitates to trick the child, even when it would give her an easy solution. She knows she could never forgive herself if she taints Roxie's belief in something impossible.

Meanwhile, Sophie's classmate Derrick is a man of no belief. He looks at this moving tragedy as an opportunity for fame. Neglected by his father, he craves attention. Never once does it cross his mind that Bigfoot may exist. All he wants is a chance in the spotlight for involvement in discovering Bigfoot and helping a dying girl.

When the day comes for these three people unite to find Bigfoot , the results come as a complete shock to Derrick and Sophie. They plot and plan and work hard for something in which they have little to no faith. Instead, it appears right before them. All of their preparation, meaningless. They learn a brutal lesson that they should just believe, relinquish control, and let the pieces of the puzzle fall where they may. They learn to believe as Roxie believes.

The belief of one deeply affects the belief of others.

Acts 20:35 - "And I have been a constant example of how you can help those in need by working hard. You should remember the words of the Lord Jesus: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’”

Let these words sink in. Let this story serve as an example. Work hard for a cause in which you believe. Do things for others, not for yourself. Believe, even when it feels impossible.
