What is God's plan for you?

Jeremiah 29:11 - "'For I know the plans I have for you,' says the Lord. 'They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.'" (NLT)

Passengers is a thrilling and romantic Sci-Fi film set in the future on board Starship Avalon, a spaceship transporting over 5,000 people across space to a new world. During the 120 year voyage, it relies on itself for repairs and maintenance. Not a soul mans the ship.

Thirty years into its voyage, the ship incurs damage it can't repair on its own. As a result, skilled mechanic Jim Parsons awakens prematurely. This an unprecedented even, the first of its kind. No procedures exist to remedy the situation. Despite his best efforts, he can't go back into hibernation.

Proverbs 3:5-6 - "Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take." (NLT)

His awakening becomes a death sentence. He will die before he sees the new world. His opportunity is stripped from him. His future plans are shattered.

Therefore, he faces a choice. He could sink into a deep depression, lose the will to live, and wait to die. Instead, he puts himself to work, using his skills to repair and better the ship. He opens his eyes to the opportunities around him.

What he finds is Aurora Lane, an ambitious writer in search of the ultimate untold story. She finds it on the Avalon with Jim. As their unique relationship develops, an critical mission unfolds before them. They must repair the damage to the ship, or else every soul on board will suffer the same hopeless death sentence.

They must be willing to sacrifice themselves for others.

This amazing adventure begins as an ordinary journey. However, Jim and Aurora find their original goals are trivial compared to their true purpose. They save lives. Even at risk to their own. Though they never reach the new world, they find a better kind of home with each other.

Hebrews 13:16 - "And don’t forget to do good and to share with those in need. These are the sacrifices that please God." (NLT)
